the SITE SURVEY PHOTOS

LOCATIONS:
anthony mai's room/hallway
the playground
a grassy area

TIME AND CONDITIONS:
- site survey outdoors took place from 2:05 - 2:30PM
--- the sun (when on the grass area facing the main bench) was around the 11 o clock position in the sky. bright, very sunny out.
site survey indoors
- site survey indoors took place from 2:37 - 3:15PM
--- we measured all the distances in the room, recorded how many outlets there were and theyre locations (9 outlets we could use plus additional power strips available). we also took note of where some of the light sources are coming from and what light sources are in the actual room.

PHOTOS:

these are photos from today's site survey. we shot photos in the part of anthony's room that would be in the footage (the other half is where all the cameras and equipment is going to be while shooting). then we took pictures of the hallway thats going to be included in the movie. the outdoors scene, we decided that when the boy discovers the cute monster under his sheets, that instead of playing indoors at night, it would be better to film it on a playground outside in the daytime to get more of a glimpse of the monster in both night and day. so we just took some quick photos of the see-saw and slide where the boy and monster will be playing. then we took pictures of the picnic area for our new ending with the boy and the monster. its either going to be the picnic area, or another grass area where the ending is going to be shot so we took pictures of both areas.

MONSTER IDEAS

we wanted to come up with an image of a cute monster going bad. so on the left side of the page are a few ideas for the monster, using a gum-drop shape. then we decided to go for the monster on the right side of the page with the round head. a small image of the orthographic view and it standing up, sitting down. underneath it is its full monster version when it gets vicious

the STORYBOARDS: updated

IDEA FOR THE ENDING:
we wanted to take the general area of this whole thing from dark, to cute, back to dark. so after the discovery of the monster, we thought there should be small little clips of the two characters playing with one another in a cute way. perhaps a shot of them playing blocks, then next clip of them rolling a ball to one another, etc. then at the very end when it seems like the two have formed a bond, the cute little monster is going to turn vicious and do something violent to the boy (biting off its head or eating him entirely)

the STORY: UPDATED

a revised version of our story:

its nighttime and the scene starts outside focusing on the house. then it zooms to go inside the house where you see a boy sleeping. then the boy starts to feel some shaking from under his bed and gets startled. by this point, the camera is going to focus under the boys bed where theres a creature there and the eyes open, glowing. then the boy looks over the side of his bed and sees a tail peeking out from under the bed and then he gets more freaked out. all of a sudden, he sees something crawling under his sheets. he pulls away the covers and discovers a cute little monster sitting there.

the ending hasnt really been confirmed yet since we are trying to continue finding a way to end the story with a good concept. but we do know that by the end, we want to monster to become a more horrifying creature.

the IDEA: part 02

after talking with raul, it was discussed how our concept for our final was not well received, so our group decided to go towards a different approach.

its nighttime, somebody is going to sleep when all these monsters start popping out from the closet and under the bed and such.

REFERENCE:

anthony found a series of different type of silly monsters from conceptart.org (by loveandasandwich).

for this story idea, we're thinking more along the lines of silly, weird and random monsters (as shown from the reference picture) to narrow it down to one general monster design.

since we're going to have a team meeting on saturday, we're going to create different sketches of monster ahead of time and see which one we all could agree upon so we can start building them in maya. we're just going to do some simple rigging and animation. we're also going to come up with a whole new set of storyboards of our project idea so that we can develop a proper animatic. however again before we start doing the animatic, we're going to ask one more time to receive critics on our story and concept. other than that, as for the person going to sleep, anthony has found a person who would be willing to act that part so we will just need to set a schedule to begin all of this.

REFERENCES: stranger than fiction

incorporating some of the design elements from the film, stranger than fiction, into our project. the simplicity of the designs and type would be a good integration with other design elements in our project. this sort of design keeps things looking simple

the STORYBOARDS: edited

we decided to cut down the movie project in half so that we are able to produce something better quality-wise than quantity.

- a person is lying in bed when the alarm goes off
- the person wakes up, gets up and walks to the bathroom
- person washes their face, looks up and sees all those designs around him/her
- the person then rubs/blinks their eyes, and the things are gone

with that, we already have ways and ideas of adding a lot more different elements together. we've found more references to use and we are going to try to come up with a stylized design for the whole project so that we can narrow down the randomness of all the elements put together.

we are also shooting for something that uses bright colors to give the movie more emphasis on its designs.

the STORY/IDEAS

WAKING UP AND GETTING READY TO GO OUT

- someone is asleep in their bed (bird's eye view)
- alarm clock starts ringing and goes crazy. there are elements and designs coming out of the alarm clock as it opens up. it all goes back into the clock when the person slams down on it
- person gets out of bed and puts their feet into their slippers. the slippers are some sort of animal and they come alive when the feet slips into them. trying to focus on the reaction and expression of the animal slippers. things on the floor around the slippers also start to scatter around as if they're coming to life
- person walks out of the room and goes into the hallway. there are going to be elements and designs that are going to be 2D and 3D along the walls as the person walks through the hallway. maybe the elements push the person around to give the elements life-like qualities
- person goes to the bathroom to brush teeth, wash face, etc. when the person goes to the bathroom and looks into the mirror, there are going to be either characters or more elemental designs that reflect back to the person. the person blinks their eyes, and the things are gone. then the person just goes about their morning routine while all these designs keep floating around the person.
- back to the hallway and to the closet. again, more designs on the wall coming to life. when the person starts to get dressed, the clothes start to inch their way forward towards the person and dresses them (stop motion)
- another hallway shot, but this time the person is more energized and is leaving the house
- opens the fridge to grab a bottle of water or something. the things inside the fridge come to life or there are some things coming out of the fridge
- person goes out the door to leave. when the person does, all the elemental things from the morning start to follow the person out, but gets the door closed on them. then the person realizes they forgot something, opens the door again and all the designs/elements are in the background once more.

we're planning this to be around less than a minute. we're going to try to make it have a stylistic look so that it can be more relatable to us.

the BRAINSTORMING

UPDATE:
after discussing our ideas with raul (scott and i on monday), we thought it might be best to go with the ideas #01 and #02 our whole group came up with and combine them since they are very similiar. to begin our storyboards, we're first going to think of different ideas of a story line for our final and meet together to discuss them.

FINAL PROJECT IDEAS:

we're trying to incorporate a lot more 3d elements into our project with motion graphics integration. character/creature designs will also be developed so that this whole project can include everyone's majors.

#01
regular everyday scenery with characters running around (three legged legs inspired)
- video footage of a location, character/creature designs, 3d objects, motion graphics elements

#02
in our daily routines things change and become different, so for example when we wake up to go to the bathroom to use the toilet or shower..theres a monster in the shower when we open the curtain..or theres tiny fishes swimming in the toilet. then in the closet theres a monster changing and it gets scared by us. and maybe on out walk to school or to the market there are things out of the ordinary
- video footage of someone doing a daily routine, 3d and motion graphics elements, creature designs

#03
creating a commercial spot promoting a brand or something along those lines.
-mostly composed of 3d elements with motion graphics incorporated, environmental/character/creature designs
